R.E.Market Durham

Real Estate Market Durham. The saying goes, "All real estate is local". So true. But real estate is a fascinating animal. It is very small and very big at the same time, and is a metaphor for all that we hold dear in American culture and society - community, safety, risk, dreams, and unbridled optimism. Here, you'll see the everyday and the extraordinary. I want to REMarket the local conversation about real estate. I won't have all the answers, but hopefully I'll ask the right questions.

How Many Homes Did Your Agent's Dog Sell Last Year?

Love this video from 1000WattConsulting. Real estate brokerage is about serving the client. 'Nuff said.

Interesting video - I suppose the "Dog" references were aimed at My Dog Tess, Inc? - www.mydogtess.com

The real estate firm in Durham that was ranked 16th in the Triangle out of 1,000 firms by the Triangle Business Journal based on transaction volume from the MLS - from the TBJ 2008 book of lists.

In short, Tess sold a lot of homes last year!

The producers of the video aren't based in the Triangle (at least one lives on the West Coast), so I don't think that was a jab at MDT. They were more focusing on those "old school" agents whose primary marketing vehicle is an ad featuring their dog, cat, kids, etc. From my experience with MDT, you guys are shaking up the status quo by offering a value proposition to your clients. I think the video was meant to compliment firms like yours - definitely not "old school"!

1000Watt is based in California and in no way aimed that video any individual.

As you explained Tamara, dogs do not sell homes. Agents do, along with strong value propositions. It would be special if one agent in America used a dog to brand themselves but when you have tens of thousands of agents using dogs as their brand marker, the consumer wonders, as those in the video are wondering, why?

It's fine if agents want to believe their pets sell homes. It's another to learn what consumers want for real and market behind that. Sales might actually increase.

Would you be Marc Davison? If so, I'm honored to have your input.
If not, I'm still honored that you took the time to post:)

Hi Tamara, in hindsight I see you are correct regarding the video.

I suppose I can not get out of "promotion" mode, but I am proud of what we've done.

    Thanks for your compliments.

I enjoy the blog. Hope we can do business this year!
